Village Iqbal Abad, UC Thathi Sameeja is situated in District Lodhran, Pakistan. There are 80 households in this village. Hand Pump was a primary source of water in the village but it does not provide sweet drinking water. This community had to walk 3 km for collecting clean drinking water. Mostly children and female were assigned the duty of fetching water. It was causing wastage of energy and time of these groups. If this time could have saved, children could go to school and female could do some earning activity being at home. There were some protection issues as well.
People of the village held a meeting for having a source of safe drinking water in their village. They put an application to Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP) office for constructing a Bio Sand Water Filtration Plant (BSWF) in their village. Mr. Allah Wasaya submitted application and shared the whole scenario with the LPP team. In response to it, a site survey was conducted by team. After this, a meeting was conducted with the community in order to form a water user committee. This committee took the responsibility of izmir escort operation and maintenance of the BSWF. BSWF was installed and made functional within two weeks of the meeting. Whole the community especially female and children were glad upon the facility of BSWF in the village as they would not have to go to the distant points for water. Now female can do some productive earning activity for supporting their family being at home during the time consumed for water.
According to Mr. Allah Wasaya (Committee Member); “1890 litter water is utilized on daily basis. The BSWF is not only benefitting village Iqbal Abad but as well as surrounding communities.”
