Self-Esteem is Everything

Being the widow, it was very difficult for Gaamo to look after her family. Irony of situation, her son and daughter were disabled and she was the only breadwinner for her family. But due to limited resources, she had to work hard to manage expenses.

Gaamo Mai, lives in Nalka Langahwala village of district Layyah. Her son and daughter are disabled and even one of her granddaughter is also disabled. Living in mud house, she didn’t have any opportunity for earning. She also had some agricultural land but due to unavailability of human resource she was unable to produce any crop. Having financial issues, she was disappointed and her circumstances were going bad to worse.

Lodhran Pilot Project always focuses to eradicate poverty in marginalized community to provide them opportunities for sustainable livelihood. To meet the goal, LPP started its interventions in District Layyah. During project activities, project team formed Community Organizations (CO) at village level. Gaamo was enlisted for the member of CO. She was informed about the role and responsibilities of community organization. CO and project team jointly conducted an assessment in her village to provide livestock for poor families of her village. She was selected as beneficiary for the provision of goat to improve livelihood conditions of local communities.

LPP team distributed goats at village level to contribute for sustainable earnings. Gaamo was one of the beneficiaries. LPP team also conducted training session on livestock management to get maximum results.

Gaamo looked after her goat and after few months, it gave birth to three kids. Gaamo was so happy to see growth in her livelihood. “I am thankful to LPP team for providing me such a life changing opportunity for my livelihood. I have a plan to sale some of goats in near future for my household expenses”. Gaamo shared.

Gaamo and many others have been benefited through LPP for their sustainable livelihood. Gaamo’s disability is no more barriers for her children and now they have chance to excel their study to fulfill their basic needs .
